PruPIM gains ISO14001 Certification for its Property Portfolio

Released by Prudential Property Investment Managers on 13 Dec 2005

Prudential Property Investment Managers Ltd (PruPIM) is the first UK property company to achieve full ISO14001 certification for its entire property portfolio.

ISO14001 is the internationally recognised standard for environmental management, and the scope of this certification covers all PruPIM’s operations. Whilst it focuses on the company’s managed portfolio of some 240 properties, it also includes PruPIM’s head office functions, the development and refurbishment activity across the entire 1000-property portfolio and PruPIM’s day to day operational management of its properties.

ISO14001 certification has required the setting up of an Environmental Management System (EMS) to analyse PruPIM’s own operation, and that of its Facilities Management, Construction and other operational business partners, to deliver improvements in energy and water consumption as well as tighter waste controls in a collaborative way across all these businesses.

Commenting on the certification, PruPIM’s Environment Manager, Martin Stephens said “We are delighted to have received this recognition of our commitment to continual improvement of our operational control, legal compliance and the reduction of the impact of our business on the environment. We are committed to continue to improve our performance and drive down our environmental footprint perhaps through striving to influence occupiers of our properties and others over whom we have no direct control, to work with us and our other business partners in this common vision.”

PruPIM’s Director of Corporate Responsibility, Paul Cornes, said “The ISO14001 certification of PruPIM, which was a major objective within the company’s Corporate Responsibility Strategy, provides transparent reporting of PruPIM’s environmental performance and allows for tangible measurement of the company’s ongoing activity in this area.”

Nikki Samme, Marketing Communications Manager at BSI commented “By implementing ISO 14001, PruPIM has a framework that allows it to consistently control its significant impacts on the environment, ensure compliance with environmental legislation and continually improve its business operations, as well as show its commitment to corporate responsibility. We are delighted to award PruPIM registration to ISO 14001 and look forward to working with the company in the future to manage and maintain compliance with the Standard”
