PruPIM raises money for its Charity of the Year - the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign

Released by Prudential Property Investment Managers on 05 Jun 2006

Generous employees from Prudential Property Investment Managers (PruPIM) in Holborn have raised enough money to help buy a new powered wheelchair for a London student.

Roy D’Cruz, from Winchmore Hill, is 24 years old and has a severe muscle wasting condition called Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Roy is fiercely independent and enjoys attending college and socialising with friends. His previous chair, supplied by the NHS, was very basic and so slow it almost caused an accident when crossing the road recently.

After a grant from Action for Kids, Roy was still £3215 short to buy the chair he needed. So PruPIM employees, through their partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, raised the outstanding amount for Roy.

The dedicated employees leapt into action and organised fundraising events at the Holborn office, from bingo and sweepstakes to a quiz night.

Roy said, “I want to thank all the PruPIM staff who worked hard to raise money for my new chair. I still can’t quite believe I have it. It is so much more comfortable and reliable than my old chair and will make negotiating crowds at Arsenal football matches much easier now!”

Roy visited the PruPIM offices in Holborn on the 18th May to thank staff and demonstrate the functions of his new chair to explain what a difference it will make to him.

Paul Cornes, Director of Corporate Responsibility for PruPIM said, “After we chose to support the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign as our Charity of the Year everyone was really enthusiastic to fundraise as much as possible. I think we were all shocked to learn just how expensive these vital pieces of equipment are. We have hosted a variety of events and we are thrilled to have raised enough to cover the remaining cost of Roy’s new wheelchair.”
