Nick Prettejohn speaks at Scottish Financial Education National Conference22 Dec 2008 The Scottish Centre for Financial Education, part of Learning and Teaching Scotland, in partnership with Prudential, hosted its annual national conference on financial education at Murrayfield on 4 December. Nick Prettejohn, Chief Executive of Prudential UK and Europe along with Maureen Watt MSP, Minister for Schools and Skills and Chris Pond, Director of Financial Capability at the Financial Services Authority, gave keynote speeches on the how the finance sector can support schools in delivering high quality financial education in times of economic uncertainty. Education professionals from across 32 local authorities in Scotland, along with over 180 teachers and financial services sector representatives attended the conference. The conference examined how teachers and schools can be further supported in delivering a high quality financial education for all young people in line with the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence. This aims to help young people deal with money matters when they go on to work, college, or university and help tackle financial mismanagement which is a symptom and cause of exclusion and poverty. The programme for the day also included workshops focusing on the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, case studies in primary, secondary and the special needs sector and a UK wide perspective from the FSA, the Personal Finance Education Group (pfeg) and the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment Northern Ireland.
